Well, I know I said in my last post that I had a bad case of bronchitis. Turns out, it was much worse. I have full blown pneumonia.

After all of the hullabaloo at the Urgent Care Center, I was still coughing by the end of the week and all the antibiotics I was taking were doing was giving me diarrhea, so mom and I went on Monday to the Urgent Care place we had originally wanted to go to (but didn't since they were closed). I was still examined by a Nurse Practitioner, but this one seemed to be a bit more on the ball than the previous one.

She listened to my chest and then had me take a chest x-ray, which was why mom had wanted me to go there in the first place. After waiting for what seemed to be an eternity for the results, she came in and declared I most definitely had pneumonia. She described it as a communal case, which means I got it while being surrounded by a massive crowd of people.

So, yes. Dragon*Con gave me pneumonia...

She prescribed some Levaquin as well as an inhaler and a cough suppressant. My insurance paid for the Levaquin... not so much for the others. So I had to make do.

I took one of the Levaquin as soon as I got home, and by the evening, I felt a marked improvement. Not enough where I could try to Skype my dad for his birthday yesterday since I kept losing my voice and unable to speak much above a whisper lest my lungs start bitching me out.

However, this was not the end of the happy fun times. Oh no. I woke up this morning with a nice bright rash all over my chest, arms, neck and face. Guess I'm allergic to the Levaquin. Luckily this rash doesn't itch like the one I got when I was on Diflucan. It's still rather an annoyance. The NP wanted me to come back in a couple of days anyway for a bit of a follow-up. Good thing, too. I could get my meds switched... again, and deal with this rash I now have.

So, luckily my insurance WILL cover the new meds and I get to take Benadryl for the next few days to try and be rid of the rash. I swear to God, this thing better be resolved soon. My health and I are not the best of friends right at this moment. Plus, it's officially Autumn now, and there are fun things to do on the horizon. Like Fall Festivals and corn mazes and pumpkin patches to romp through!

Hopefully all of this home care will prevent me from winding up in the hospital, because I definitely don't wanna be stuck with the bill for THAT!

On the school front, there are only a few things I need to do before I can officially hand in my application for the Spring 2014 semester. I'm hoping that things will fall into place since I don't really have much of a back-up plan unless get another dead end job that I loathe.

I guess it's a good thing I'm not working now since I've been practically bedridden for almost two weeks and now I look like I have the Plague.

I love my life...

Well, I've been laid up since Friday with what turned out to be a case of bronchitis. Hence my longer than anticipated absence. I had a nice Dragon*Con post almost completed when I somehow deleted it without saving a draft. It was a pretty well written one too. Hopefully I can get back into the right mindset again in order to rewrite it.

So this weekend was a pretty brutal one. I had had a bit of a nagging cough since the middle of the week or thereabouts but I didn't really think anything of it. I just attributed it to seasonal allergies as per usual. But, it kept getting more and more persistent and then Friday I was feeling very hot and I found out I was running a slight temperature. I took some OTC stuff to help rein it in somewhat, but it didn't really do much except dilute the symptoms.

Friday, mom had gone to a cemetery in order to take a photograph for Find A Grave, and I went with her because I was a little curious about the whole process. Yes, it's basically taking a picture of a headstone, but there are parameters that have to be followed it turns out. Pretty interesting. I was feeling so-so buy the time we started, but back to feeling miserable by the time we ended and having to stop in at Walgreens for Mucinex for me to take.

By Sunday, I was over it. I was tired of the coughing and the yo-yo temperatures and the sleeplessness, so mom went to see if my COBRA was caught up for September to see if I could get into a Walk-In Clinic somewhere and nip this thing in the bud. It was, so we did.

I've never had bronchitis before, so I had no idea what it all entailed. Something with the lungs, I think? Anyway, since I tend to be a massive hypochondriac I was thinking I had all kinds of things. Tuberculosis. Yellow Fever. The Plague. ANYTHING!! All I knew is that I wanted this thing GONE! I did wonder a little if it was a case of the Con Crud, but I didn't hear that my companion I went with had been sick, so it most likely wasn't that.

We found the urgent care place, which is open until 6:00 on weekends, and signed in. Mom called ahead of time to double check that they took my insurance since it's out of state, which luckily for me they did. So while in the waiting room, I had to fill out a phone book's size amount of paperwork before the long wait. Luckily the wait wasn't terrible or anything, not like some places I've seen.

I was called back and taken to an exam room and had my vitals taken. I did find out I lost some weight since being up here, probably due to hauling ass up and down the stairs everyday. Then I waited some more. Then the student Nurse Practitioner came in, did a small exam, took some notes and then left. Finally, the provider on call came in, who was a regular Nurse Practitioner and she examined me and I got a diagnosis and she wrote me some prescriptions. Luckily there was a 24 Hour Walgreens not too far where I could get them filled so I didn't have to wait until the next day to fill them since it was early evening and most everything else was closed. Mom and I wandered around the place while they were getting filled. I saw a cute stuffed Jack Skellington in there that I wanted and dammit if I shouldn't have gotten it!

So today I've been taking my meds and taking it easy and I've started to feel a little perkier, except for the damn cough. I don't know why coughs feel the need to hang around longer than necessary. Especially the hacking kind of coughs where you feel like you're gonna rupture something every time you cough.

Well, it's time for the non-stop carnival fun ride that is my annual colonoscopy. For those of you who are new to my journal and may not know, I have Crohn's Disease which I was diagnosed with 12 years ago. So now, since I've had it for as long as I have, I have to go once a year for a colon check-up to make sure everything is looking good. Last year I had a bit of a relapse, but hopefully that won't happen again this time.

So, I've kinda made it a tradition to post an article one of my favorite writers, Dave Barry, wrote about when he had his colonoscopy a few years ago. He sums it it pretty well actually. For those of you who've read it before, you can skip it if you want. Or you can read it again. Up to you.

read on, MacDuff! )

So today was my prep, which is ALWAYS fun. Not only do I have to eat nothing but clear liquids all day (which make me feel hungrier than if I hadn't eaten anything at all) but that leads up to the highlight of the evening, the liquid prep. It's ostensibly cherry flavored, but it really tastes more like what I presume camel spit would taste like. Then I get to spend a few hours locked in the bathroom while it takes effect. So, hopefully this will all be worth it.

Luckily it's only once a year.

In other health related news, I may have a disorder with my thyroid that needs to be checked out. I see the endocrinologist in a few weeks so hopefully we can find out what's going on. Like this is all I need in addition to everything else.

Also, my boss decided to put me back on 5-8s again instead of my former 4-10s during the week. She says it's going to be temporary, so hopefully she's right. I found out from a friend of mine that it's due to the company that is looking to buy us out wants us to get as much money posted as possible before the summer is over. So maybe things will get back to normal after all of that. I like having a day off during the week to be able to unwind and take a breather.

So my main issue is trying to find out what to bring for my lunch since I had things already planned out for only four days. Yes, my main issue revolves around food. Kinda sad, isn't it?

I gotta say, I am not very enthused about this one. For one thing, the animation looks VERY poor. The original series, which was done in the 80's no less, looks better than this one.

And who the hell are these new characters? What is this, Voltron High?

Yeah I know, I sound like one of those 'they changed it, now it sucks' people. I personally don't see why they need to reboot the series in the first place. There was (and is) nothing wrong with the original. Same thing goes for Thundercats (which is also being remade).

Maybe I'm being cantankerous or something, but I wish Hollywood would get some originality. It seems like everything they make anymore is a remake of something else. Now cartoons are falling victim to it as well.

Now, I have something I need to get off of my chest, and I hope I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings or sensibilities, and if I do, I’m sorry but this is how I feel.

I found out recently that there is going to be a remake of the series ‘Thundercats’ which was one of the many cartoons I grew up watching and loving as a kid. There are also remakes of ‘My Little Pony’ and one of ‘Voltron’ in the works.

DEAR GOD WHY?!?!?!?!

Well, I’ll tell you why.

Merchandising.

All of these shows had massive amounts of toys and tie in merch when they originally aired. I should know, I’ve had a few of the toys myself. I have no issue with having merchandise with popular series. However, too many studios are making shows purely for the merchandising factor.

It makes sense because it’s a major money maker. Look at the shit tons of merchandise you can find for the Star Wars series. It’s made Lucasfilm a huuuuge chunk of change in the ensuing years. Sure, there have been some cool and rare collectables over the years. I am not opposed to merchandising. I am opposed to making a show for the sole purpose of cashing in on the merchandising.

And let’s face it, that’s why the majority of these remakes are being done. I mean, why else? There is nothing wrong with the original series as they stand. Sure, some of them have aged a bit… some more than others… but that’s what adds to the charm.
Granted, I may be a little biased since we’re talking about shows I loved (and still love) as a child. Growing up as an only child in a single parent household, I had to entertain myself somehow and the cartoons I watched after school and on Saturdays was a big part of that for me.

Plus, I am someone who hates remakes. Especially unnecessary ones (which, TBH, a majority of remakes are). I think the originals should stand on their own.

Start thinking out of the box, people. What happened to originality?

If they decide to remake ‘Jem’ as a Hannah Montana clone, I will officially give up on humanity as a whole…

WARNING-- Spoilers for Betrayal follows!!

The thing that I feared would happen appears to have happened. All I can say is...f***k!<--that's as close as I get to swearing, folks.

*siiigh* To say I'm seriously disappointed is an understatement. What the hell were the authors thinking when they came up with this scenario? I mean, I really like Jacen (AKA the 'Playboy of the SWU' due to the fact that roughly six different women have fallen in love with or felt a strong attraction to him. One of whom he had a child with. Not that I can necessarily blame them *points to her icon*).

Anyway, I do know that the Sith return in the 'Legacy of the Force' comic book series, but since it appears they were in existence before they recruited Jacen, why the hell did they have to play this card. I mean, I know they showed him 'vision of the devastating future' et al, but these are Sith. They lie and manipulate to get what they want. I mean, look at Palpy for Pete's sake! Ohhh, and what a coup to round up the grandson of Darth Vader.

All I can hope is that this is perhaps a ruse on Jacen's part. Kinda like the end of 'Angel' when Angel infiltrated the Circle of the Black Thorn in order to eventually destroy them. I mean, due to the comic series, it appears that the Sith aren't destroyed, but I'm still hoping for some sort of miracle, perhaps? I mean, maybe Jacen'll come to his senses before he fully completes the transition. What will happen to his relationships with his family? Tenel Ka? His daughter for Pete's sake? What will happen to the Solo bloodline? I mean, I know there's still Jaina, but she's not going to continue the Solo name once (and if) she gets married (although Zekk doesn't exactly have a last name. A-hem). What happened to the Jacen I used to know? The joke-cracking, animal-loving, adventure-seeking one?

I also kind of wonder if there's going to be a showdown between Luke and Jacen a lá Obi Wan and Anakin (although, admittedly, that fight between them kicked ass)?

Ooohh, how I weep for the future...

Sorry about my little rant, there. It's just I sort of get emotionally invested in certain characters I feel I've grown up with. Feel free to skip if you want to.

In other news, mom and I plan on going out to dinner with a friend of ours. The same friend from last week, actually that I missed going out with due to the ill-timed 'illness.' I think I'm gonna enjoy myself. I always like hanging out with this friend because she makes me laugh.

And, if the rain from Alberto lets up, I plan on working on a layout for someone at some point.
