Sorry I've been so sporadic with my posting on here. My depression sometimes tells me why I even bother since hardly anyone reads it, but I know a few of you still do, so I appreciate it.

Health wise things seem to be getting better. I still have a few problem areas, but otherwise I'm doing good overall. Maybe now that we're getting into fall, things will get even better. I do know there are those out there who have it worse than I do, so I guess I'm appreciative for that at least.

Things at work are actually pretty good. I think it's partially because I'm working on changing my overall attitude to try and become a better person. I don't want to be the kind of person who holds onto all of the petty crap and bitterness that happened in the past. It does nothing but hold you back keeping you from moving forward with your life. It won't always be easy, but it's worth it to try.

I also think it helps with the fact that my co-worker that had the most issues with everything is no longer there and not feeding into the situation. I still keep in contact with her and we're still friends and all and I value that friendship, but she's a bit anti-social and misanthropic. So since she's not at work anymore, it helps to stay focused on other stuff and not get dragged down by the little unimportant things.

There's still heavy talk of a buyout, but some of us had a meeting with our supervisor last week and the subject was addressed. It seems for the most part that our department will most likely stay intact. My boss reasons that since we have the more advanced computer system, that it would be foolish to get rid of people who have been using it for awhile and are familiar with it. And since we'll be implementing a new data entry system (which will take a few years to be fully operational) that we'd still be needed. Now, granted this is all guessing, but it still gives me some relief to say the least.

Mom and I are prepping for our vacation in three weeks. I'm so excited! We're going to be in Tennessee and see the fall colors and the beautiful mountains and the crisp air. It's gonna be very hard for me to go back. Especially since more friends of ours moved up there this weekend. I keep hoping and praying that the opportunity will arise for us to make the move up there once and for all. Hopefully...

I finished my reread of Furuba yesterday. I still get the warm fuzzies when I read the last chapter. I have such affection for this series as well as the friends I met through it that it makes me smile every time. I may reread my Ouran series next, even though I'm missing the first ten books. I hope to be able to acquire them at some point in time. Either that or High School Debut, another shoujo series that I find cute and charming. I haven't made up my mind yet.

Well, happy fall everyone! Enjoy the changing of the leaves, the cooler air, pumpkin flavored everything and the coming holidays!

Hey, It's August, which is generally considered the hottest month of the year. Yippee.

Not to mention the fact that the month has barely started and I'm already busy.

First of all, there's all the Olympic watching to be done. I swear, I've watched more TV this past week than I have in several months. Then after the Olympics, a lot of regular shows are returning with new episodes. My DVR is already cringing.

I did have a rather nice, if low key, birthday. I got a Soft Kitty T-shirt, singing plushie and a red velvet cake from mom. Later on, she took me to dinner at my fave Japanese steakhouse. From dad I got a stylus for my Kindle Fire, a portable modem/WiFi hub (for travel purposes) and a MST3K set.

Friday mom had surgery on her bone spur she had on her right foot. She had a difficult time coming out of the anesthesia though. So she ultimately spent the night with my aunt, who lives in a one story house and has a wee bit more medical experience than I do. Mom is better now that she's fully alert and no longer nauseous. She's abusing her patient privileges I think though. I told her not to get used to it since I have to go back to work on Monday.

At the end of the month is when I have my colonoscopy, so that's always a good time... I have my Remicade treatment that same week, so I'm gonna take the last three days of the week off.

I've also been dealing with a heat rash for the past few weeks. So yeah, I'll be happy when this summer is over and the weather gets cooler. But, seeing how i live in the armpit of the world, that could be awhile.

In fandom related news, I picked up the newest volume of Sailor Moon. Still enjoying it even while finding the artwork a little old school, it's not a turn off for me. I tend to be an art snob when it comes to my graphic novels. I mean, even if the story is good, if the art is bad, I can't bring myself to read it.

I also picked up the latest volumes of Bakuman. I've been reading this series from the very beginning since before it was licensed and have been enjoying it quite a bit. It ended in Japan a few months ago, but I've been picking up the English volumes when I can.

Another series I found is Vagabond by the same manga-ka as Slam Dunk. It's an historical series about Musashi Myamoto and I have to tell you, the art is AMAZING! The attention to detail and the way he gives each individual character distinctive looks and personalities is incredible. I highly recommend picking it up if you get a chance. Word of warning though, it's pretty long, so you need to be dedicated in order to read it. I've also started to read his earlier work Slam Dunk due to this despite the fact I have no interest in basketball whatsoever. My mother would be so disappointed in me since where I grew up, basketball is practically a religion.

I'm trying out this new gel nail polish I saw in at Wal-Mart in the hopes it'll last longer than regular nail polish.

Long time no see, eh? I know, I've been very lax in my postings lately. I apologize for being so neglectful. Most of it's just laziness and unmotivated.

We're getting into the summer movie season and there are quite a few I want to see this summer. I've already seen 'The Avengers' three times since it opened four weeks ago. Yes, it's that awesome. I was gonna do a write up on here like I've done before, but I haven't been motivated enough and coherent enough to do so. I also saw 'Dark Shadows' last week, which I liked. Mom was a little indifferent, but she wasn't a huge fan of the original show. She said she watched it a few times when it was on though. I'll probably watch it again though.

Job wise things are going okay. I mean, I get bored out of my mind a lot of the times, but since I'm gainfully employed and have decent health insurance, I can't complain too much. I'd ideally like to find something I'd be happier doing, but I've yet to figure out what that is yet. Maybe someday.

The work environment is pretty much status quo. I mean, there are still personality conflicts going on, but I try not to let it bother me as much anymore. It's not worth me wasting my time and energies on it. I'm kinda worried about my friend J though. She's a bit neurotic and the situation bothers her a lot more than it does me. I think she thinks it bothers me as much, but it doesn't really. I just try to tune things out as best I can. It's harder for her to do so, however. She complains to me a lot about it. I try to be as sympathetic as I can. We've tried going to our boss about it, but nothing seems to have helped. I'm honestly getting worried about her sanity. I hope she doesn't do anything drastic like leave and such, because she's basically the only person I have to talk to there. It's a bit sad, but then it's the story of my life in a nutshell. Like high school all over again, and I hated high school.

Mom and I went snorkeling a few weekends ago with some friends of ours to a natural spring and it was a lot of fun! I definitely want to do it again! I want to try to get an underwater camera though, since we had to get the disposable kind and film developing is expensive anymore. Sheesh. Still, I got a few nice pictures out of it though!

I'd post one, but I can't get Photobucket to resize it properly and for some reason, whenever I try to upload pictures onto my LJ scrapbook in order to insert into Semagic, I keep getting error messages. Blah.

And I started watching 'Legend of Korra.' It's awesome. I love it. And I am officially a Makorra shipper. ♥ I need to find icons to add, but I'd have to cull some in order for them to fit and I can't decide what to dump. Choices, choices.

I've also fallen in love with the BBC version of 'Sherlock.' There are only three episodes per season (although they're each 90 minutes long). The first season is available on Netflix Instant, so I'm going to check to see if the second has been added yet since it came out recently. There are plans for a third season, thankfully. Again with the icon issue.

Vacation last month was a bit of a disaster. I got into a huuuuge argument with my step-mother (a first for me in the 25 years I've known her) and the stress got to be too much that I had to leave early. My dad was very understanding about it, though. He's had to deal with the massive mood swings she's gone through recently. I haven't spoken to her since then, so I don't know how things are between us. Dad did say that after cooling off for a few days, she did feel regret for things that happened. Maybe things will get better. Only time will tell I suppose.

My manga blog is still in it's infancy. Hopefully I can gather enough ideas in order to do decent postings and not get lazy and unmotivated like I tend to do. I hate that aspect about myself. I need to update my Mini Jasper and Alice blog as well.

Health wise I'm doing well. We're into allergy season, and that's always fun. The Remicade treatments I've been getting seem to help with my Crohn's. It's not so bad having to get stuck with an I.V. needle every eight weeks. I take my Kindle, my iPod and some snacks and settle into one of the more comfortable chairs and relax. Most of the time I end up falling asleep.

Well, if you were able to read all of that without falling asleep, congratulations! You get a cookie! It's a virtual cookie, so I hope that's ok. No calories in those.

Ciao!

Hey everyone! I decided to be a wee bit ambitious and start a new blog about introducing manga and anime to people who may not know what it is.

My mom was the one who came up with the idea, so I thought I'd try my hand at trying to explaining things to people (like my mom) who may not know anything about all these books I keep reading.

So, I hope you guys might drop by and give it a looksee and let me know what you think!

My mom came up with the suggestion that I start a blog about anime, manga and graphic novels in a way that people who don't know what any of that is, can learn about it and understand what it is. And I must say, the idea is very intriguing and possibly has some merit.

Now, I don't know what will come of this, but she says I need to do something that I feel passionate about and I do really enjoy reading manga and graphic novels and watching anime. However, it does feel a little daunting. I mean, I need to find my niche somewhere that others who have more experience haven't already done.

I mean, there are a few people out there who already do blogs and sites regarding manga and anime and graphic novels and have already been well established up to this point. So I'd like to focus on maybe coming from a viewpoint of someone who doesn't know anything about them, like my mom.

My first and main issue is trying to find a hosting site. I already have a WordPress blog for my Alice and Jasper blog and I have a Blogger one that I rarely use, but unless I can change the name of it, I don't think I can use it either.

So, any kind of suggestions/comments/words of advice/encouragement in regards to this somewhat daunting project would be appreciated. I ask you guys because I met the majority of you through manga and anime, so it is to you I cleave to right now.

Well, finished Series 2 of 'Doctor Who' today while I was home sick (damn migraines). "Gut wrenching" doesn't even begin to cover it. I didn't shed actual tears (which surprises me), but I was highly emotional nonetheless.

I'm assuming this is the end of Rose as a regular companion. I think I heard/saw/read somewhere that she makes brief appearances later on here and there. I liked her as a companion. But, from what I've seen, we get Donna Noble next and I've heard many an awesome thing about Donna, so I am looking forward to that!

I can see why Ten would be a strong favorite. I find him adorkable and pretty awesome myself. I look forward to seeing Eleven though, even though I'll probably miss Ten something fierce. I guess time will tell. I have a ways to go yet before we get to Eleven.

And yes, I did some icon rearranging to squeeze in some DW icons (on LJ). What can I say. I'm hooked.

I also started reading 'Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.' I've never really been into the Sailor Moon fandom, but I saw the reissued manga in the bookstore a few days ago and thought it would be a good time to start. I like it so far. I mean, it's your typical fluffy magical girl shoujo, but that's ok. Nothing wrong with fluffy. :D

And, one way to tell you're obsessed with a particular fandom. You buy collectibles for it when you haven't been in it very long. Case in point:

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Yeah, both Ten's and Eleven's sonic screwdrivers. And [personal profile] savvyliterate showed me River Song's sonic screwdriver from ThinkGeek, and now I kinda want it now even though I've never even been introduced to her character yet. *siiiiiigh*

Shamelessly stolen from [personal profile] rosehiptea:

Stolen from THE ENTIRE INTERNET: Your job is now your Time Lord name. The last digit of your phone number is the current regeneration you are in. The nearest clothing item to your right is now the most notable item in your current wardrobe. The last person you texted is your current companion. Your favorite word is now your catchphrase.

Now, I fully admit to not being majorly into the who fandom as some I know. It's not due to lack of trying, however. There's just a TON of history to work with and it's taken me awhile to get into it.

However, my answers are --

Since I work as a Data Entry Clerk, my title would most likely be "The Clerk" which doesn't sound too bad if you think about it.

I am currently in my first regeneration... which would technically mean I haven't regenerated at all yet.

Notable wardrobe item would be socks. That would be cool since I have quite a few pairs of quirky socks already.

My companion would be my dad, which wouldn't be too bad. If it had been the person I texted before HIM though, it'd be my friend who is a big Whovian herself, so that would be cool.

My catchphrase would most likely be 'awesome.' Not because it's my favorite word, I just seem to use it a lot.

Now you guys try!!

With pink everywhere this month, it’s always interesting to see how people react to the color. Although for many women pink symbolizes the fight against breast cancer, others see pink as a color that has blocked them into a gender box. Either way, it always seems to evoke passionate emotions.

Obviously I like the color, and I’m not offended if you don’t. It’s important to remember that preferences – such as a favorite/unfavorite color, or love/hate for a series of books, or Prequel Trilogy versus Original Trilogy – are what makes us each unique. A lot of people, though, especially women, have trouble separating that out. The best example I can give is my opinion of Twilight. I don’t like it; I tell my friends who love it that I don’t like it. Yet they know I’m not making a statement about who they are, which is ultimately my friend.

One reader at the Fangirl Zone Facebook page took the time to share a picture with me – Aayla Secura with a pink lightsaber. The Twi’lek Jedi Knight was introduced and made famous in the comics by the team of John Ostrander and Jan Duursema. Interestingly enough, they have written some of the best and most diverse stories in Star Wars, and did it with a carefully crafted mix of Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy themes.

Twi’leks were traditionally thought of as just the dancing girls, the objects of mens’ desires, within Star Wars. That makes it quite remarkable that a comic book character – a Jedi female Twi’lek, no less – actually caught the eye of George Lucas when the prequels came around, and she was included in the movies. The lightsaber color was changed to the regular Jedi blue, understandably to avoid confusing the movie-goers.

Personally, I’m still hoping one day Aayla will get her pink lightsaber back.

Remember to encourage your fellow fangirls to fight breast cancer any way they can – with regular screenings, self-exams, and joining the local fundraiser events if you can.

I don't know what she means by that line, but then I don't know what she means by a lot of her lyrics...

This job is slowly sucking the soul out of me bit by bit. Today was no exception. It started off fine, but by the end of the day, it hit a massive low point. I think it was due to the fact that I was on messages for the last half of the day, which isn't my favorite job, but I can tolerate it within reason. Of course, today, almost none of the charts that I had to find weren't where they were supposed to be, which meant I had to take time out of my other duties in order to hunt them down and look for them. So I was tense when I left.

Then came the angst. Maybe Dad was partially right. Maybe I do have a mild form of Depression. I mean, most of the time, I'm on a fairly even keel, but there are the few occasions when the thought of shutting myself off from the rest of the world sounds appealing. Just me alone with my books. Books don't give you stress. Books don't argue with you. Books are the perfect companion.

Maybe I'm just tired of not knowing what to do with my life. I mean, I sure as hell don't want to do this forever. I mean, I have a degree, but what good will it really do me? In order to really do anything in the field, you have to have at least a Master's and at this point, it's not gonna happen for me. I don't think I can cope with school at this point anymore. I mean, there's nothing I'm really passionate about that I can make a living from.

OK, 'nough of that.

Saturday I went to do some shopping. I still have some left to do, mostly mom's gift. She's really the only one I have to buy for. That night we went to a Christmas party. It was very nice. We watched the shuttle go off which added a nice highlight to the evening.

Sunday we put the tree up. It's not decorated, but at least it's up. I strung lights around my window which adds a nice touch. That night, we went to the Christmas play that the kids in our church put on. It was pretty cute.

I got a new phone! A pink RAZR. I love it. It's nifty. I wanted to one with the Cherry Blossom design on it, but they were out. My contract was up, so I was able to get one. I upgraded mom's phone to, but not to a RAZR. The only thing is, I can't put my cell phone charms on it.

I actually took my life in my hands and braved the outdoor "mall" in order to go to the bookstore so I could pick up a copy of Furuba 15. I also got Buso Renkin 3 while I was there. The lengths fandom drives a person to.

I went to Wal-Mart to pick up my prescription and while I was there, I saw Hellsing Ultimate, which threw me for a loop, needless to say. I also saw several other DVD's I want there as well...
