So my 20th high school reunion is coming up this summer, and, if nothing happens, I'm going to try to go. I'm kind of two minds about the whole thing, really.

I mean, the people I knew well back then I stay in contact with over Facebook, but I have a feeling if I don't I might regret it later on. Besides, it might be nice to see some of the people that aren't on Facebook.

I did go to my 10th reunion, and it wasn't bad... despite the fact that the Red Tide came ashore and I felt like utter shit the whole time. Luckily that won't be an issue this time around... unless I get a major Crohn's attack or something. I've always had impeccable for this sort of thing.

I was never Ms. Popularity or anything. I was pretty shy and got along better with the loners and the kids who were a little bit different that everyone else rather than the popular kids. Now, I embrace my differentness, which I kinda wish I did more of when in high school. But, you know how it is. You don't really embrace who you are when you're a teenager as opposed to adulthood.

At least I can say that I have a definite career path, rather than say I have a soul sucking job as an office drone (which I didn't even have at my last reunion). I may not mention the fact that I still live at home, not for over attachment reason, but for economical. But, they might be a bit understanding about it nowadays. Who knows.

There are two 'events'. One is a picnic during the day which is more casual and stuff (which I can swing no prob). In the evening there is a cocktail party, which I can swing much less so. I mean, when have I ever been in a situation where I've been to a cocktail party before? I don't know the dress code, or if there will be finger foods or not served. I guess I'll just have to play it by ear or something.

Then comes the issue of cost. Since I no longer live in Florida, I need to save money for a plane ticket (no way am I driving) and then find a way to get a car since I'd have to drive to the venues and such. I think my aunt will let us stay with her (because mom said she wanted to go down as well, not for the reunion obvi, but to visit people), but I don't want to just assume. Especially since my aunt looks after her great-grandkids quite a bit. It's still about five months away yet, so there's still time to figure things out.

And, since this month is the start of my 10th year having this LiveJournal, I think I'll try to post snippets from my journals over the years. Here's from my very first one:

Well, it's my first day on LiveJournal and the weather is kind of crappy. I was reading RK online, but my cable connection went all wonky and I had to reboot. *grr* I'll have to try again tomorrow and finish the rest before he changes it again. I might have to do a Cleansweep or something to make sure I don't have anything messing up my system. That's the wonderful thing about technology, when it works, you love it. When it doesn't, it becomes your biggest enemy. Well, I'm going to go see if I can fancy up my page some.
Feb. 24th 2004.

That's... pretty much it. I didn't really have a lot to say in the beginning. But, I am extremely grateful for all of the friends I've made on here over the past 10 years! I treasure them so very much! Love you guys!!

Sorry things have been quiet on the posting front. I kept meaning to, but then I never got around to it.

Anyway, things have been kind of up and down lately. We're still trying to get adjusted to the new merger at work. They are a lot stricter when it comes to a lot of thing and that takes some getting used to. We now have to fill out (what seems like) a ton of paperwork just to request time off. We haven't been divided into cubicles as of yet, but it'll be coming soon I think. Maybe it'll be after I leave, which is in another few months. Maybe once I turn in my notice, I can light a fire and do more packing. My weekends have been pretty scattered lately so I haven't had much of a chance to do more sorting and packing. Mom is getting frustrated because she thinks the place looks like a hoarders house to which I assure her that it doesn't look anything like that. Also, that the boxes will increase the closer it get to when we move.

I'll be visiting my dad and step-mother this weekend for a little while, as in a few days since that's all I can spare due to the fact I have no Personal Time saved up do to the merger. I hope it goes better than last time when I had to leave early due to some disagreements with my step-mother. maybe it will be since it'll be at an actual house and not a cramped RV. I guess we'll have to see...

I had planned on going to a Pow-Wow last weekend that my cousin likes to go to, but mom and I decided to go to a memorial service for a fiend of ours from church and I'm glad we did since we were able to get together with some friends we hadn't seen in a long time and were able to catch up and have lots of fun. It was a good celebration of life.

I may have had a falling out with another close fiend of mine over the weekend. Things have gotten rather strange with her lately. She's been posting all of these rants about being prepared for the Second Coming and how all the Muslims on the planet seem to have a personal blood Jihad against the entirety of the United States. I know some of the more fanatical factions probably do, but the majority of the Muslim people more or less want to live their lives as the rest of us do. She's always been rather conservative in her beliefs, especially after she married her husband, but it was never to this degree. And it's only really been fairly recently too. I may have aggravated things a little by asking a few questions here and there and getting these bizarre tirades in return. I sent her a message on Facebook saying that I don't want whatever may have been done or said to come between us as friends and to try to smooth things over a little. She responded by saying she'd pray for me to have my eyes opened to see the truth that is out there. O...K. I tried leaving neutral responses and stuff, but I haven't heard anything back yet, so I have no idea if I'm on the shit list or not.

She's the one that we'd do a lot of fun stuff with, like game nights and going to the Highland Games and snorkeling and all kinds of things. I miss my fun-loving, adventurous friend. I hope she returns.

Looks like I'll be staying home from work tomorrow.

The air handler in our A/C unit froze over again, so someone has to stay home and wait for the maintenance people to come and fix it. Again. It was 'supposedly' fixed last time, but obviously it didn't work. It's a shame because the guy that worked on it seemed really nice and wanted to be helpful.

What really needs to happen is our apartment complex needs to buy a new air conditioning unit for our building. We've had so many problems with it ever since we moved into this new apartment. In our previous apartment (which is in a different part of the same building) we didn't have any issues mostly because it had a newer unit. With all of the complaints and 'repairs' that have had to be made in the years we've been here, you'd think they'd actually get around to replacing the damn thing instead of always having to come and repair it. I have to be the one to stay home since where mom is at, they are extremely short handed personnel wise and she'd be dead meat if she called out. I can make up the majority of my hours during the week.

Normally this time of year it wouldn't be a major issue, but we've been having an unseasonably warm winter, so we've been running the A/C more often than usual. I'm still wearing my summer pajamas in December. It kinda sucks, but what do I expect from Florida. It'd be nice to be able to sleep at night without having to run the A/C any. Meh...

So, I have to wait around tomorrow until the repair guy shows up. I have no idea what I'll be doing. I suppose I could start cleaning out my closet, but it tends to get super warm in there and with the A/C being on the fritz, I don't want to be holed up in there doing sweaty work. So, I'll most likely watch movies or read. Or nap. Maybe I'll finally get around to putting up my Christmas lights.

I ordered my Christmas cards and according to the tracker on the FedEx website they were delivered... to the Post Office. Why they delivered them there as opposed to my door is baffling. I mean, FedEx usually delivers to the residence. So, I guess I'll be getting them in hand tomorrow. Now I just need to get stamps.

Here's the cover picture, btw:

It was one I took while on vacation a few months ago that I fancied up using a cool photo editing program called Be Funky. I've been having waaaaaay too much fun with it. I used to use a program called Picnik, but they don't exist anymore, so I had to look elsewhere. All of my contact pictures on my phone I ran through filters and stuff just for fun. I am easily amused by the smallest things...

Met up today with [profile] cosmic_reverie at a charming local coffee shop. I hadn't realized we talked for almost two hours! It was fun! I enjoy making new friends! Especially ones who live locally! We talked about a wide variety of subjects, like Star Trek, NASA, the future of the space program, places we want to go in Florida, cameras and the like.

Mom and I bought the Blu Ray combo pack of the Nolan Batman trilogy, so we made a day of watching all three movies yesterday. It was pretty fun! Today we watched the Blu Ray of the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert, which is always excellent. Makes me hyped even more for the movie coming out in a couple of weeks. I just know it's gonna shred me emotionally, so I need to make sure I bring tons of Kleenex. I tried to buy the soundtrack to the movie, but apparently it's not available yet. At least not on iTunes. *rawr*

Well, I'm gonna close out and try not to go into heat stroke over night. Sweet dreams!!

Well, my heel is still hurting. I got a brace to put on it to try and hopefully lessen the pain, but it didn't really help much. The kind I got was kinda bulky and it didn't fit very well. One size fits all my ass! Plus, the edge of the heel kept rubbing against my tendon, which was THE VERY THING I WAS TRYING TO PROTECT!!! Argh! So mom said when she's out tomorrow getting the car (yay), she'd try to find me another one that fit better. Luckily, I'll be wearing shoes with open backs tomorrow so no rubbing and maybe it'll help. *crosses fingers*

Mom's out to dinner with her co-workers. It's technically a Christmas dinner, but it's after Christmas, so it's a "holiday" one instead. Oh well. I got home before dark, so I was happy.

I'm excited about meeting Mona on Saturday, but I have no idea what time we're gonna meet or what we're gonna do. I gave her my cell number, so hopefully we'll connect and get the details hashed out. I still need to make her gift. Hopefully tomorrow.

This song could be the dirtiest song in the world and I'd have no clue since it's in Swedish (I think). But, it's cool, so I listen to it a lot. I picture a totally kick ass sword/lightsaber fight sequence when I listen to it. Know what's to blame for that? The totally kick ass Princess Tutu AMV that I watched which made me love this song so much... Yes, I'm a hardcore geek.

ETA: Dude, my icon totally twirls in time to the song...

Well, I'm gonna tend to my tendon and kick back. Laters!

Trivia of the day: The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, Babylonians celebrated the beginning of a new year on what is now March 23, although they themselves had no written calendar.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who left comments and condolences on my last post on the loss of my cat, Ori. It was greatly appreciated. A lot of people wouldn't have a great deal of sympathy for the loss of a pet, but they fail to realize that they're more than just an animal. They're a devoted companion and loyal friend. So thanks to all of you.

Secondly, Ernesto is coming our way, but he's been downgraded to a tropical depression, so it'll probably be the strength of a thunderstorm by the time it gets to us. Mom's work is closed today because they feared the worst. I think it was a little presumptuous of them, but I guess they figured better safe than sorry. So mom is home now going through some things in her bedroom.

I'll contact the Human Resources Department tomorrow and see where I stand employment-wise. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Of course, if I do get hired, I'll have to cut out my night owl activities...

I joined a new community called [livejournal.com profile] mp3_share where I can look for some music. I found some already. There are some songs I'm looking for, but I don't know if I want to place a request just yet or not...

Hopefully Ernesto won't knock out any power or anything. If so, well then I wont be online tomorrow probably. I doubt it, though.

Yesterday I've been burning some stuff from my computer onto CD-ROM's so that I can free up some space on my hard drive. There's some torrents I want to open up, but I need the space first. I'll finish more of it today.

Trivia of the day: Because microwave ovens cook so fast, microbes can survive on the surface of the food. To counteract this problem, cover the cooking dish with another dish of glass or ceramic, not plastic. The steam that accumulates will heat the surface, thus killing any surviving microscopic critters.
