snapdragon76: this is made of win and awesome (Gren sad (road_not_taken))
I am dog tired. I got up at 4:30 this morning. >_< Surprisingly, I was in pretty good spirits for having been rudely awakened. Tomorrow I have to get up at 6:00. Not as bad as before, but still pretty bad...

We did pretty well for the first day of the sale. Most of the larger items were sold and all that's really left are a bunch of the smaller ones. My shoes are still MIA, however. Through the course of the day, I learned just how rude people can be. And greedy! A few were complaining that it wasn't a real 'estate sale' because it wasn't being held at the deceased's residence and there was a lack of large furnishings. Hello! For one thing, my grandmother wasn't a rich person, so she didn't have a lot of large elaborate furnishings. She had what she needed and got by with that. Also, a few items were given to family members, so there wasn't as much as there had been originally. Secondly, she lived in an apartment that had to be vacated by a certain time, so there wasn't any way we could've had it there. I doubt the management would've allowed that anyway. People need to realize that when people say 'estate' it's not necessarily referring to a large house chock full of antiques. It means, someone's entire houseful of belongings, whether it be a house or an apartment. My aunt used to live in Turkey, so she knows how to bargain. I mean, some people were wanting to knock a price down by a dollar or so, and for the most part it was agreed to. But for some things, people wanted to pay a lot less than what it's really worth. I mean, a few things were semi-expensive originally and people wanted them to go for next to nothing. A few people had said that we had good bargains, so I don't know why they were complaining. There was this one couple there that was ruuuude. I mean, the man wanted to look at this one picture that we had, and he couldn't find the price. My mom went over to try and look for it. It was on the back. I saw it from where I was sitting and called out to her, not knowing if she'd seen it or not. The guy gives me a dirty look. I didn't say anything (of course) but I was thinking, 'That was totally uncalled for, buddy.' His wife (I'm assuming) didn't say much of anything to us, but she had this sort of disdaindful attitude. They did buy some things, but my aunt said she'd rather not have them come by at all if that was their attitude.

I totally got sunburnt sitting out there all day, too. After I check my FL, I'm gonna apply some aloe and then lay down for a bit. I think tomorrow's gonna be slower because we don't have as much stuff... Fine with me. I just want it to be done with.

Trivia of the day: The game crambo, in which one person or team must find a rhyme to a word or a line of verse given by another, originated around 1600. The word "crambo" is from the Latin for “cabbage.”

People focus too much on material goods sometimes. =( *hugs* I'm glad that everyone you dealt with today wasn't a total jerk. Sorry to hear you got sunburnt, though. I always feel really tired after getting sunburnt. =/ *hugs again* Feel better.

Yeah, I know. I mean, get with the program people. We're not a shopping center or anything...

My hands and my face got the worst of it. My lips feel like they're on fire. I can't even find my sunscreen.I hope tomorrow I won't get burnt again. Ugh.

And I think this icon is fromthe same picture that I have on my desktop. Not that there are too many color pictures of him... unfortunately.

People are vultures, it's as pure and simple as that. I know this is a bad comparison, but when the bookstore I worked for closed down, people were coming in asking about everything from the furnishings to the chairs, and would get REALLY pissed off if we didn't have the books marked down far enough. *sigh*

*hugs* That must have been a really rough day for you.

I simply can't imagine working with the public like you do everyay. I mean, I know there are people out there who are really nice and considerate, but they don't show up the majority of the time. I tried not to get annoyed as some of them picked through my grandmother's belongings, but sales like these are usually hard anyway. But top that with rude people and it can be downright unbearable.

Luckily, the majority of the people who stopped by were relatively considerate. There was just those select few. I do have a greater empathy and understanding for your job, however.
