I watch this and can't help but hear EXACTLY what the marketing department was thinking "Hey Nolan's dark knight totally cashe din. Let's make an uber dark spiderman! NO MORE WISECRACKING".

One of the major things I find appealing about Spidey is his quippery in the face of action. He's a smart ass and it helps him to cope with the massive amounts of shit that goes on with his life. If they take that away from him, it's taking away a large part of who he is as a character and a person.
But then, this is only the teaser trailer, so there might be more of the humorous elements in the actual movie itself that we have yet to see. I hope so.
And Batman is a darker character, so they can get away with making his character dark and gritty because it works for him.
And sorry for the rambling! I guess I'm more of a Western comic book geek than I thought I was. I drifted away for a time when I discovered manga. I'm not back into it full force like I once was, but I still keep my feet in the waters as it were.
