So. I went to see Star Trek today. It was really good.
Wow. I think the only way I can do this is with a bullet list.
• while the characters were pretty much like we know them, the story line was very different. For one thing, Vulcan is destroyed. In TOS, it's definitely not. Spock's mother is killed. TOS? She's still very much alive...
• I like the design of the bridge. A lot of lights and clear glass panel monitors. Very open and airy. It still had the little beeps you'd hear every now and then.
• Éomer played McCoy. Fantastic job he did too. "Dammit, Jim! I'm a doctor not a physicist!" Spot on.
• Chris Pine is fiiiiiiiine. That is all.
• Spock ain't nothing to sneeze at either. But then again, I've always had a thing for Vulcans... I think it's the ears.
• Mr. Spock and Ms. Uhura had a thang goin' on! Which, I must say, is much better than whatever it was Uhura and Scotty had goin' in the 5th movie (which technically doesn't exist). I can't say I blame either one of them....
• A Red Shirt gets in in the middle of the movie. I told this to mom and she laughed. I was right though...
• We saw trailers for Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe beforehand. Damn, my childhood is gonna have a BITCHIN' summer!
• Sequels. The actors all signed on for three. So I wonder if the continuity is gonna go back to the established one or what. A lot of purists are probably pissed about that...
• mom was totally unaware that Winona Ryder played Spock's mom...
• Simon Pegg as Scotty? Hilar.
So, there were supposedly Easter Eggs hidden within, but I think we'll need a few more viewings to try and catch them... :-)

(no subject)
I think I'll have to force myself to watch it again. Such torture looking at all the pretty and shiny.
