snapdragon76: this is made of win and awesome (Default)
Well, I went to the allergist today. Interesting results. I suspected I was allergic to a few things, but good Lord!

Follow the cut for the full list:

Here's ALL of what I'm allergic to, in a convenient list.

Trees:

Elm
Hickory
Maple
Melaleuca -- huh?
Mulberry
Pepper
Pecan
Palm
Oak
Pine

Basically an entire frickin' forest.

Molds:

Epicoccum
Penicillium
Helminthosporium
Stemphylium

Environmntals:

Cat hair/dander -- yes, I'm allergic to my cats. Luckily it's not sever enough where I can still keep my babies... I just have to wash my sheets more often.
cat pelt -- whatever that is
cockroach-- basically their droppings. Eww.
dust mites - this was a given. I have to wear a mask when I dust.

Weeds:

Nettle

So that's 21 things I'm allergic to. The one I'm most upset about is the cat one. I'm not getting rid of my cats no matter what, so I opted for weekly shots. Not too bad. Kinda bums me out a little though.

at least you're not allergic to your babies to the point that you have to be away from them. that would be super sad.

Yes, it would be. *sniffles*

I just can't have them sleep with me anymore.

Wow, that is a lot. I'm sorry to hear it but I'm glad you don't have to get rid of your kitties.

I also apparently have allergies, which are giving me a cough, or so the doctor told me today. Maybe nature is out to get me too.

Yes, it is a lot.

I can see it now: When Nature Attacks!

Don't sweat it about the cat allergy. I had an allergy test when I was 11 cuz my asthma had been so bad in previous years they wanted to see if I had allergies that triggered my asthma. I am allergic to dogs, cats, dust, grass.. mostly haha. I am also allergic to pennicillin, and all the 'cillin's and arithramiacin (sp), but they found this out when I was five and broke out into hives when they gave me one after another after another one time when I was sick (and my brother was in surgery at the time, poor parents lol)

I had shots for a while, but they weren't helping, so my mom stopped them. But I have had dogs all my life and haven't had too much of a problem. I had a cat around then, and my mom made me get rid of her so I wouldn't be around a dog AND a cat. Luckily that cat was a bitch anyway. When I worked in the kennel, after a while, I got more and more used to being around animals all the time. After two weeks of constant sneezing, first.

But lately, my nose has been non-stop running for MONTHS. People at work are getting sick of saying 'bless you' to me haha. So I am getting rid of piper for this reason, hoping it will help things. I think maybe it is the cat dog combo, rather than many cats, or many dogs. its the totally different kinds of hair, together.

And if that works, I gotta go to the doctor cuz this shit is driving me crazy lol

Yeah, I'm not allergic to dogs apparently, so I don't think the combo would be all that bad.

Still, I have to get those hypo allergenic slip covers for my pillows and shit. There was talk about full on mattress covers to, but as long as my head area is protected, I think I'll be fine.

I haven't had the shots yet, so I dunno how that's gonna work out. I'll just have to wait and see.

At least there's no food on the list!
Date/Time: 2008-04-09 22:20 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapdragon76.livejournal.com
Well, the skin test didn't test for foods or drugs, so they wouldn't be on the list anyway.

I hope I never get a food allergy though. My mom has one and it sucks!

BTW, I saw the latest chapter of Kaze Hikaru, and a scene has MAJOR squeeage in it!

Also, there's an art book out now! I wonder if I can get it somehow...

Oooh, really? :O IS THIS IT? If so you can probably get it through Amazon Japan :) They take foreign buyers, unless an item is used. Then I think you need a Japanese address.

And yes, food allergies suck very much :/ I should know.

YES! I want it. Badly! I mean, who knows if Viz is going to translate it into English or not.

Really? I may have to look into it... *strokes chin*

Time to start getting the shots, M'dear. I began them about ten years ago and you wouldn't believe the difference. No more reliance on OTC antihistamines that maybe worked once in awhile and, best of all, no laying awake all night with itchy eyes and throat and constant sneezing.
Date/Time: 2008-04-09 22:22 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapdragon76.livejournal.com
Yeah, I have it set up for me to start getting the shots soon. I have to get them once a week and luckily my allergist is in the same building I work at, so it's no major inconvenience.

Thank goodness you can keep your cats. I'd have totally cried for you had you not been able to keep them.

I'm allergic to aspirin, can't have coffee because it makes my sinuses flare up, and I can't used scented soaps. I can't wear or be exposed to perfumes and colognes for an extended period of time either because I start to sneeze (and they also make my sinuses flare up).

I think I may be allergic to work too -__-'. I'm too delicate for labor.

Me too!!!

Man, that sucks! My mom and my aunt have a severe sensitivity to heavy scents, so we have to be careful with the scenty stuff, which kinda sucks because I like scents.

I kinda wish I was allergic to work...

Holy crap. O.O :( I am allergic to dust mites, and I have a sensitivity to ragweed. That's it. I guess I'm lucky. Dust mites really are a bitch - apparently that's the most common allergy there is. Good luck with the cats. Oh! Add tea tree oil to your wash when you wash your sheets (and wash them hot of course). That's what my naturopath recommended.
Date/Time: 2008-04-10 02:03 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapdragon76.livejournal.com
Yeah, I was told to wash them in water hotter than 130 degrees F (or 54 degrees C). I didn't know about the tea tree oil. I use it on my blemishes and like how it works. I'll look into it for my sheets though, thanks!

You can also put it straight on your mattress and pillow, and in your vacuum cleaner's bag (um, get someone else to do that, or when it's fresh).

I need to find some somewhere. The stuff I use isn't easily dispensed willy-nilly and such. Plus, the bottle is kinda small.

I think we have some of them around here, I do believe...

Melaleuka is also known as Tea Tree. Its Australian. And that makes me sad because its a KICK ASS natural cleaner/astringant/antibacterial oil. And you may want to stay away from me since I've been useing organic Tea Tree shampoo and body wash lately. It smells funny.

I've considered going to an allergist... but dear lord... I don't want to THINK about that list.

Addition... most "tree" and "nature" allergies pertain to their pollen and not necessarily the oils from them.
Date/Time: 2008-04-11 22:04 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapdragon76.livejournal.com
Yes, I figured pollen as well.
Date/Time: 2008-04-11 22:04 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] snapdragon76.livejournal.com
Well that's strange then, because I also use it as an astringent agent and I haven't had any reaction to it at all. Maybe I'm only slightly allergic to it...

I don't think they test for cold on the scratch test.
