snapdragon76: this is made of win and awesome (Default)
Well, here I am, back to the grind. The four day weekend was nice, but it had to end eventually.

So, here's the scoop on my mini vacay:

The best way to do it is to go day by day, so here goes.

  • Friday

Mom wanted to avoid the Interstate, so we went up A1A which pretty much follows the coast. We passed though Daytona Beach, which took longer than expected. We had to check into the Bed & Breakfast at three, so we didn't get a chance to go to the lighthouse on Friday like mom wanted.

Due to the fact that St. Augustine is an historical city, a lot of the streets are very narrow and one way, so trying to find a place to park while we check in and unload. At any rate, the Bed and Breakfast we stayed at was beautiful. The room we stayed in was very lovely. Best of all, I had my own bed!

Trying to find a place to park was a task in itself. Since I mentioned the narrow one-way streets, it was difficult locating the designated area especially since we we unfamiliar with the area. But, find it we did.

The rest of the day we spend exploring. I bought a couple of hats at the Panama Hat shop. I bought a Kangol cap and an Aussie Bush hat (which I've been wanting for a long time). We signed up for the Ghost and Pirate Tour and went to find a place to eat. We ate at a place called Scarlett O'Hara's It was really good! We sat at the bar and had a drink. I had a really good. Screwdriver while mom had an Amaretto Sour.

Since we signed up for the 9:30 tour, we had a lot of time to waste, so we wandered around a bit more. It was getting kinda chilly, so we got some hot chocolate and warmed up a bit.

The tour itself was really good. I'm glad we decided to wait for the later tour because the guide we had was very experienced and was very into character.

We went back to the room afterward and crashed because by then, we were dead on our feet.

  • Saturday

We got up and ate our breakfast on the side porch which was very nice. The majority of the day was spent planning our day and shopping.

First we stopped of at the old time photo studio to have our pictures taken as a couple of saloon girls. It was a lot of fun! I may or may not post the final result...

The we went to the Irish shop where I got a Claddaggh ring and a shillelagh. Mom got a Celtic Cross with a blue stone in the center.

Our next stop was the tea shop. Ysa, you would've love the place! They had a large variety of loose teas and bagged teas! I bought a Japanese tea set and a sake set. I also got six ounces of loose tea for getting the tea set. I picked one green tea, one red roobios tea and one black tea. I drank some of the green tea yesterday and it was really good!

After that, since we discovered that walking is murder to our feet, we stopped by the bath place and mixed up some peach/fig scented foaming bath crystals (as well as a couple of rubber duckies).

By this time, it was lunchtime, so we stopped and ate a bit and then toured some of the local landmarks. We signed up for an evening carriage ride and stopped by the Pirate Tours place so we could pick up something for my cousin for Christmas.

We dropped of some of the bags we had and rested for a bit before eating dinner and heading out for the carriage ride. It's a good thing I bought that shillelagh. I need up using it!

The carriage ride was awesome. We rode by some of the local landmarks and was told some of the history of them. And it was a full moon and many of the businesses had Christmas light on, so it was all quite cool.

After that, we went back to the room and crashed. We made use of the bath crystals for sure!

  • Sunday

We woke early since we needed to get tickets to tour the school. We had to check out first since the tour started at ten and we had to be out by eleven. You should've seen us booking down the street in order to get to the school in time for the tour since the parking area was about four blocks away. The tour was actually very informative.

After that, we went back to the tea place so we could get tea cups. I got the black and mom got the brown. The black one matches my tea set.

Since we didn't get to go on Friday, we went to the lighthouse. Mom got a few small souvenirs while I got me a painted glass fish bowl made from the square glass window tiles. Now, I just need to get a fish for it.

I'll try to have pictures later.

Needless to say, I wasn't able to watch my Princess Tutu set while I was there. Mostly because we weren't there long enough for me too and when we were, we were either too exhausted or I was trying to catch up with my FL.

In fandom news, I decided to order volume seven of Kaze Hikaru from Amazon as well as the missing volumes of Emma I need. I also lucked out and found copies of Fury and The Essential Guide to the Force. Needless to say my icon-fu will be twitching...

I went to the GI today and he wants me to have my colonoscopy after the first of the year... say January. The only bad thing about it would be the prep for it. I have to take this nasty ass liquid to clean me out. Blargh.

Remember when you and I spent a day at St. Augustine a few years ago? We did the carriage ride and browsed some of those shops in the old town. It was a lot of fun as I recall. I'm glad you got the chance to see it again.

Yes I do. St. Augustine definitely isn't the place to visit just once!
