snapdragon76: this is made of win and awesome (Sei & Okita --gaze (lilsuika))
Last night was bath night. The older cat, Missy was the first victim. She handled it pretty well. She complained of course, but didn't really fight us. The second vitim was the culprit of all this mess: The dog. Of course, he just jumped right in. He must love getting bathed. Weirdo. We had to blow dry him. It wasn't too bad. He loved that, too. He kept trying to lick my face, though. Yick. Of course, the real challenge to come is when we have to bathe the other two. They're fighters they are. It's like a wrestling match. A wet wresting match (and you of the perverted persuasion, just stop right there).

I went to the bookstore yesterday. I bought stuff (don't act like you're surprised). Two novels andthe April issue of 'Shojo Beat.' The novels are 'Mr Darcy Takes a Wife' and 'Darcy and Elizabeth.' Now, I know ofthe story of 'Pride and Prejudice.' In fact, it's oneof my favorites, but these two 'unofficial' sequels ('unofficial' in that they weren't written by te original author), intrigued me. And no, not just because of the passion inside... I have a bit more depth to me than that, I'll have you know.

I aslo rented a few videos (DVD's to be precise). 'Walace and Grommit and the Case of the Were-Rabbit,' 'Walk the Line,' 'Zathura,' and 'Harry Potter and the Gobletof Fire.' All are due Wednesday, so I have a lot to watch...I watched one last night, actually.

And I have the tesimonials up if anyone wants to look.

OK, I'm goingto do a short summary on two of the chapters in 'Shojo Beat.' At least, I'll try to keep them short...

Absolute Boyfriend:

Basically everyone at school knows Night and Riiko are going out. Mostly due to the fact that Night is very affectionate toward her... which causes many awkward moments for Riiko. Soshi, however, is not very happy about it (and we all know why, don't we? *titters*). Basically, we see Night one-upping Soshi whenever he can (whether it's intentional or not, I don't know). Now Soshi is pretty smart (and athletic as well), but he's no android, so he has a slight disadvantage to say the least.

Riiko runs into Satori in the hall, and she drops something. It's a bank book, which Riiko takes a peek at. She discovers that Satori has amassed quite the savings. Since Gaku is taking whatever money Riiko has ("Maintenance fees" he says), she's interested to know how to earn herself some extra scratch. So Satori agrees to give her some pointers. She says she invests in the stock market, all of which is too confusing for Riiko (hell, I'd be confused too). Riiko asks if htere was another way she could earn money. Satori whips out her laptop (from Hammerspace apparently), and asks Riiko some questions. Something comes up: A Vietnamese restaurant near Riiko's home. Riiko decides she'd go apply and thanks Satori (who claims a small fee for her services). Night overhears the conversation and inquires about Riiko's employment prospects. Riiko didn't want Night to know about her money problems, mostly because she didn't wanthim to go looking for work for her sake.

Riiko then goes to the restaurant and gets the job waiting tables. While there, she bumps into Soshi (who coincidentally happens to be working in the same place). She didn't recognize him due to the fact he's not wearing his glasses, and is definitely attracted (cut her some slack, I didn't recognize him without his glasses when I first saw him in the second chapter without them. And I agree he looks very tasty without them). One of the other servers calls for them (by last name) causeing Riiko to realize the "hunk" is indeed Soshi. The look on her face is priceless. She asks why is there and he tells her he's been working there for a week. She then asks where his glasses are and he tells her he wears contacts when he's working, but doesn't like them very much becasue they make his eyes itch. Riiko starts to work, not fully recoving from the fact that Soshi is really quite the hottie. And of course, Night stops by, much to Soshi's consternation. Night's disapointed that Riiko got a job and tells her he'd work so she wouldn't have to. Soshi, meanwhile, escorts Night to a table so he doesn't interfere with Riiko's working. Night too is surprised to see Soshi there.

Night asks Riiko is she started to work there so she could be closer to Soshi. She tells him it was pure coincidence. Night notices his ring (which is tied into Riiko's emotions) flash a mixed color. She tells him he doesn't need to collect data while he's there, but he says he'd still like to know how she's feeling. She tells him she can't talk while she's working. Needless to say, Riiko is extremely flustered and mixes up her orders. Night confronts one of the customers who complained to which Soshi sits him backdown at the table. Night's worried about Riiko who's worried about not messing up on her first day of work. He goes to the manager and asks ifhe can workthere too, surprising Riiko causing her to drop a tray. Soshi goes over to see if she's OK (which Night notices, of course). Riiko apologizes to Soshi for covering up her mistakes, which he says not to worry about since everyone makes mistakes when they first start. Night's ring flashes (what color, I have no idea since this is a black and white manga). Hurt, he goes home, to Riiko's confusion.

Later, after her shift, Riiko is made to stay and wash dishes since she made mistakes. Soshi stays to help her. He asks her about Night and his sudden disappearance. Riiko says it's nothing. Soshi then tells her he doen't think Night has much common sense, but that he really seems to care for her. He than says he wishes he could be more upfront with his feelings like Night is, surprising Riiko. She then asks him if there's a girl he likes (*titters*), almost causing him to drop a plate. She then continues to say that she doesn't ever remember him having a crush on anyone before. She curious to know about the girl who finally got his attention. Soshi goes onto say that "she's so dense!" He's right under her nose, yet she's always falling for other guys. How she's a total spaz amd that her only redeeming quality is her cheerfulness. He says she's stubborn abnd hates being alone and how he'd like to forget her, but he can't. Sound familiar, Riiko? Apparently it does, because she's starting to perhaps get a clue. She reaces into the water and brsuhes up against his hand (*squeeeeee*), causing her to blush. She takes her hand from the water and tells Soshi she can finish the rest of the dishes on her own. However, Soshi comes behind her and embraces her. Night, waiting outside, sees his ring turn red (for joy). He's a bit heartbroken because he wonders if being with Soshi makes Riiko happier than being with him (T_T).

my thoughts: *squuuuueeeeee* This was an unbelievably cute chapter. Now, I really like Night. He's so sweet, but then he's programmed to be that way. However, I'm really warming up to Soshi. He's cute. Really sweet (when he's not frustrated with Riiko), and he'd make really good boyfriend material. So, I'm torn. I mean, I know Night's not a living, breathing person, but he does have real feelings and I don't want him to be hurt. On the other hand, Soshi's been carrying a torch for Riiko for quite some time now and I kinda wanna see how things go. Gah! I hate triangles where I like both guys!

Kaze Hikaru:

Sei has left the Mibu-Roshi. After confronting one of the men who was responsible for the deaths of her father and brother, and seeing him commit seppuku in front of her, she doen't think she's cut out for this sort of lifestyle.

She's trying to decide what to do next with her life. She's standing on a bridge over the Yodo River thinking back to how she's let down all of the others. She overhears two townspeople discussing the previous events withte men for chosu who were killed by the Mibu-Ro. She thinks to herself how there's more to them than killing. But then she thinks just how brutal a life it really is, how she couldn't even touch her breakfast afterwards. Okita had then told her that it would probably be best if she were to leave and not come back, not cruelly of course. He just thinks it might be too much forher and she'd be better off finding somewhere where she could be happy and safe. She can't bear to turn back, because she deosn't want to see him and be afraid.

Meanwhile, Serizawa discovers Sei's missing and is outraged. Okita tells him simply that she wanted to pursue medicine and since her revenge had been fullfilled, there was no longer any reason for her to stay and he simply told her to continue and fullfill her dream (of course, since no one else knew of Sei's true gender, Okita didn't use 'her'). Serizawa, however, wasn't satified with that response, she he insisted on going to look for her. Saito, in the meantime, confronts Okita about letting Sei go. You can't get much past Saito, that's for certain (either here or in RK). Saito saks Okita about is feeling on the situation. Of course, Okita says he liked bing in the position of 'older brother' since he was the youngest in his family, then says perhaps it was best suited for him to be the youngest one after all and that he told Sai to leave (*giggles* Suuuure, Soji. Just tell yourself that). Saito, however, doesn't believe him (added to his complete deadpan look). Saito then feins pain in his side so he can stay behind (we'll see why in a minute). Serizwa lets him stay behind (Saito: "I shed a tear in thanks"). Saito insits the others go despite him staying behind. Which means that the others can't go onto Kyoto without him. Okita seems dubious, but he gets dragged away despite any opposition. So, Saito stays behind, forming a plan?

Meanwhile, as darkness falls, Sei is still on the bridge, wondering what to do next. Since she's still disguised as a boy, she can't exactly pass herself off as a girl anymore and since she has no sponsor, she can't find employment as a boy. She rubs the top of her head, thinking perhaps she should shave the rest and join a convent. She thinks back to Okita's comment on her hair when he first discovers her secret. She remembers she told him she could take another life if needed. Now, she realizes that perhaps she only said that because she had no idea she'd actually be faced with it. She then thinks that in previous times, she never had to kill anyone. Suddenly, she hears her name called and sees Serizawa on one of the boats on hte river below. He urges her to come back. Then Okita pops up and then she's convinced it's her former comrades. She wonders why they seem to be looking forher, so she runs off before anything more definite occurs. She feels she's been gone for years as opposed to hours. She bumps into someone on her way offthe bridge. She apologizes as she goes, but someone grabs her arm and stops her. It's Saito. He tellsher he made a prayer to her brother that he would find her. Sei is moved and cries on his shoulder, wishing that at that very moment he didn't look and sound so much like Yuma.

Back at the lodgings, Saito discovers the real reason why she left. She said that it might've been bestif she had been killed. She goes on to explain that she had losther reason to live and that she had wanted to become bushi like Okita, but that she's not sure what that word means anymore. She says that if being bushi means having to kill someone with a smile, than it's not something she wants to become. Meanwhile, Serizawa and co encounter an impasse in the form of a sumo wrestler who's blocking the path. The Sumo wrestler, insulted by the offrontery of Serizawa, challenges him to a fight, to wish Serizawa isn't likely to refuse. Despite Okita's warnings, out goes Serizawa's sword and down goes the Sumo. Unfortunately, he wasn't alone as his buddy comes to see what happened. Before Serizawa can cut him down, Okita runs in front and tackles the other Sumo, giving him a warning not to start anything. Okita then drags off Serizawa.

Saito then tells Sei of his own misgivings with becoming bushi. He relates of how he was 19 when he killed someone on a whim. They had been students together at the same dojo and had challenfed Saito to a duel with real swords. Since Saito was of a lower family station than the challenger, itwas unheard of for him to have accepted, yet he was oblivious to it so he accepted. When the fatal blow was struck, he felt that perhaps he should've commited seppuku there. His father however, told him that since he was achild of bushi, his life belonged to none but the shogun and only he could order his death. He told him to never use his sword for himself. It was then that Saito realized that although time had made bushi out of those with titles, the only true bushi were soldiers with something to protect. He says that Okita smiles because he never kills for himself, always to protect others. This has sparked a renewed respect and appreciation for Okita in Sei's eyes. Suddenly, a commotion is raised and news of a fight between the Mibu-Oshi and Sumo is spread. Saito goes to lend his sword, but leaves with the advice to Sei that her life is for her to decide, but he stillows Yuma so he offers to be her guardian if she should ever call on him. Saito leves with his words sinking into Sei. She realizes that her 'revenge' was nothing more than a grudge. She wonders if she indeed had anything to protect.

Saito joins the fray, with Okita telling him not to kill since the Sumo's only weapons were sticks. Sei rushes in to lend a hand, much to Okita's surprise. He steps in front of her (while she's blushing, BTW). She then wonders how many times she's see his back in front of her, protecting her from having to kill. How amny times, has he taken the blood of an enemy,so she wouldn't have to (awwwwwww). Then, Okita gets clonked on the head, enraging Sei (*giggles*). She runs in, yelling at the top of her lungs, giving the guy a swift kick to the face. She yells at him that even though Okita may go easy on him, she won't because she's not earned the right to. She then swings her sword, daring anyone who want to lose a hand to keep on coming. The police come and breaks up the melee. Sei, catching her breath, thinks to herslef that evenif she was called an oni, she didn't care. She now has someone she want to protect (Okita in case you were wondering. *squee*). Okita comes up to her, wondering what had gotten into her (after he tolfd her to go). She apologizes for taking so long on her 'errand.' Serizawa is overjoyed to discover that she hadn't left in the first place and Saito says that whatever story Okita told, it was just a joke. As Sei bandages Okita's wound, he asks why she came to help concidering what she said about him being an oni. She tells him that she'd like to be an oni too. Saito overhears and, as the others carry off Sei (to a brothel, no less), he teases Okita about his red face.

my thoughts: A cute chapter... in a way. I understand Sei's struggles with the group she's cast her lot with, but her love for Okita outweighs any thoughts she may have on it, which is just so sweet. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I think Okita and Sei are so adorable... even if, at the moment, he sees her as more a little brother.

This took me two hours to do. If there are any typos, too bad.

Trivia of the day: Despite the strong presence of Latino baseball players since the 1940s, Armando Rodriguez in 1974 and Rich Garcia in 1975, both in the American League, were the first Hispanic umpires in the majors.

I've read a couple of sequels to Pride and Prejudice, but I can't say I cared for them. But I didn't read those, so I hope you enjoy them.

These Shojo Beat titles sound interesting.

Maybe one of these days you will. If you do, let me know what you thought...

Yeah they are. They're two of my favorite ones...

Wow... I could never imagine giving my cat a bath. She's so fat... we can't even pick her up without her biting/scratching our hands and arms up to pieces. (She's even finicky about being brushed...) Heh, but that sounds like quite an adventure in pet bathing. =)

Oh, it was. It was. That was nothing though. When comes the time for us to bathe the other ones, that'll be the real fun. They like to fight. Last time, one of them clawed my mother.

I want to read Pride and Prejudice, since I love all the spin-off films. :)

Films? I didn't know there were films. And I've started treading the first book of the sequels, and let'sjust say... it can be a bit naughty. Well, more than a bit...

I first fell in love from the BBC/A&E co-production mini-series (it's on DVD). I have the book, but I'm only partially through it due to my sporadic reading. Still, much ♥ goes to it...

There was a recent P&P adaptation in theatres with Keira Knightly. There have also been many popular films based on the books, like Bridget Jones and Bride & Prejudice. I'd like to see the BBC series sometime.

Oh, those films. Yeah, I know of those films. I saw the Kiera Knightly version and really enjoyed it.

Yes, I do recommend you seeing the BBC version.
