snapdragon76: this is made of win and awesome (Default)
I kept meaning to update for awhile now, but I never was able to really get around to it until now. My apologies.

Things are moving apace on the moving front. Mom and I found a place we like up there and are in the process of getting things checked out. We have a few friends up there who are acting as our proxies since we can't be there ourselves at the moment. It's a very nice three story condo about 15-20 minutes away from the city we were looking at, which isn't so bad. The bottom is a garage/basement with a place for the washer/dryer hookups and the hot water heater. From the looks of the square footage, there looks to be enough space down there for decent storage, which is good since we have none here really.

The second floor is where the living room, half-bath, kitchen and dining areas are. The living room looks to be nice and spacious and it has a decent sized front windows so that there will be plenty of natural lighting during the day. The kitchen is open and has more room than the one we have here. It opens into the dining room which has a sliding glass door and a small balcony. Nice enough we can stick a few chairs out there and our plants.

The top floor is the bedrooms (2) and the bathrooms. We each have our own bathrooms, and they open from the bedrooms, which is similar to what I had when at school, and that was pretty nice. Granted, nothing is a done deal as of yet, but it's the one both mom and I like the best, and hopefully things will work out that we'll be able to get it. They do have an availability, and if we can come up with half of the deposit, they'll hold it for us. I think we can do it between the two of us. I will most likely have pictures once we move.

As far as we know, we plan to turn in our final notices at work on Tuesday, with our final day being the 10th of May. Mom is going to a 401(k) meeting on Monday to see how long it takes for us to be able to have access to them now that they've moved over from one company to another due to the buyout. Hopefully there won't be too many snafus on that respect. I have my resignation letter all typed up, so all I need to do is finish tweaking it and print it off and I'll be all set.

This whole thing is becoming more and more of a reality and it's very exciting and scary as well. Any major change in life is going to be that way. But, I think it's something we need to do. I was a little worried last night because mom was feeling discouraged and plagued with doubt about it, but she was feeling in better spirits today and that was good. I know she's worried and all, and I am too somewhat, but I just have such a good feeling about this. I hope I have the same feeling when it comes to finding a job. I guess we'll have to see.

I did buy a ticket for Dragon*Con this year, which I'm so excited about. I'm going with another friend of mine who is also interested in sci-fi and fantasy and all the kinds of geeky things that I like. I'm glad I get to go and that I can go with someone I know I'll have fun with. We're going to split the cost of the hotel and food and gas and all of that sort of stuff. I need to look over the guest list again to see if I can bring stuff to sign and all of that. My main concern is that when I ordered the ticket, I had to give my current address instead of the one where I'll be at the time of the con. Mostly because I don't have an address up there yet. I do plan on having my mail forwarded, but I don't know if they'll do it for two or three months. I don't think I can change it once I get my Tennessee address though. I guess I'll have to find out. And I plan on taking pictures of that as well! How could I not!

[personal profile] secondlina and [personal profile] savvyliterate, hopefully there won't be any hang ups when it comes time for my Namesake book to be delivered to me. I know they are being sent out around the time we plan to move, so hopefully it won't get lost in the shuffle.

Today was a pretty busy day. I cleaned out a bunch of clothes from my closet that don't fit anymore or that I simply don't wear. Some things I kept because they were only a size or two difference and I hope to be able to wear them again. I also got rid of a bunch of shoes I don't wear anymore or that have gone out of style. Don't get me wrong, I still have plenty of shoes. I still have a few more things to go through, but I'll hopefully do that tomorrow. We're going to be busting our tails to get stuff done. Mostly on weekends since during the week I'm pretty tired to be doing a lot of packing.

Hopefully it won't be so long between updates, but with all the chaos going on, I can't be sure. I'll at least try to keep up on Facebook and Twitter in the meantime.
