snapdragon76Apparently I fucked up pretty bad.
As some of you may know, I’m a Graduate Assistant at the university I attend for my Master’s Degree. I’ve liked what I’ve been doing and it’s helped having some extra money as well as having my tuition paid for.
Apparently, there is a specific course that must be taken if one is a GA, which I initially thought was an evaluation type course. Turns out there were these workshops that needed to be attended and signed off on in order to fulfill hours. I overlooked that and now I failed the course and am unable to return as a GA in this particular department. I hope it doesn’t affect my overall GPA too much since I’m admitted under a ‘conditional’ acceptance and have to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher for 12 credit hours. My main classes for my major are 9 and the GA “class” I failed is one.
I think it was because I was so focused on making sure I got all of the assignments I needed for my major-intensive course that I totally overlooked the other one. Maybe I can get a GA position in another department for the Fall semester. If not, I guess I’ll just have to take out loans like the majority of grad students.
The biggest hurdle for me is telling my mom that I won’t be able to be a GA in the Department of Education anymore. Apparently there are no “do overs” or anything of the sort. My mom is the one person I’m afraid to let down because she’s been so proud of me up to this point. Plus, the additional money it brought in was very helpful. I just have to be brave enough to tell her…
Wish me luck in being able to find another GA position that I like as well as I did this one. I feel bad for the professor I worked for as well since she liked me and I did good work for her. She really wanted to keep me on and I wanted to stay on with her as well.
Such is life, I guess. I just hope that the rest of my college career goes much smoother as I go forward.
