snapdragon76: this is made of win and awesome (Hakuryuu -- vacation)
I think I have to take my MacBook into the Apple place (not an actual Apple store, but a place that sells and repairs Apple products) and see why it’s not connecting to the internet when everything else (including BOTH of my PC’s) are.

It started when I tried to upgrade my Firefox to the newest version. I found it wasn’t compatible to the OS system I have on my Mac (which is still Tiger). I was a wee bit cheesed at this, but since there is nothing I can do, I removed Firefox from my computer. However, when I tried to open Safari, it kept stalling. Then I tried to open my iTunes store, and I got nothing.

After checking my internet connection and finding out it works perfectly fine, I tried reopening Safari. Bubkes. So I have no idea what I might’ve done wrong to cause this little snafu, but it’s frustrating. I can’t update my iPod without being able to update my podcasts and such, which I get via the internet and the internet is being pissy about it.

I need to defrag my MacBook, but I can’t download the program I need to do it, because I have an outdated OS. As much as I would like to upgrade to Leopard (and now there’s gonna be Lion coming soon. Fabulous), I can’t because I don’t have the money to buy the upgrade. I don’t see why Apple can’t have programs for people to use who have older OS. I know they want people to upgrade, but they have to be realistic and realize not everyone can.

Plus, I need to take it in so I can have someone look at my battery. It works fine, but it’s warped for some reason and I want to find out why.

I was gonna try to move all of my music from iTunes over to my PC, but I kinda don’t wanna do that because then I’d have to reformat my iPod and I would lose some of the stuff I have on there, like some of my older podcasts.

Sometimes, I just hate computers…

Aaaah. Apple. That's why my main computer is custom built.

Well, my other computer that I use most of the time is working perfectly fine. It's just my Mac I'm having some troubles with for some reason. I want to keep it operational for my iTunes mostly...

I had some trouble with mine too. Macs get weird when you don't upgrade them all the time.

I'm beginning to notice that. If they made it easier to upgrade, it wouldn't be such a problem.

How old is your MacBook? If it's a PPC chip and not an Intel, you wouldn't be able to upgrade to Lion anyhow.

And that's the thing. It's not just Macs that drop support for older systems, but PCs as well. Windows does the exact same thing and a lot of it is that the new software just isn't compatible with hardware made 5-10 years ago. It's why we can't upgrade our stuff past a certain point at work.

You don't need to defrag your Mac. That's a Windows concept anyhow ;) Go into the Utilities folder and launch Disk Utility. Select your hard drive and under the First Aid tab on the right, do "Repair Disk Permissions." Then try launching Safari.

I think I got it in 2007? I have to double check and see.

I am not a Mac expert by any stretch. I mean, I just have the one and haven't been knee deep in them before that really. So I'm still kinda ingnorant when it comes to basic stuff even. I'm much better than I was! I mean, I can do more with it than just turn it on which was really all I could do in the beginning!

I guess because I'm able to more easily renew my PCs, I never really had a compatability issue with them. I mean, I don't want to get into a PC vs Mac debate. Both have their pros and cons IMHO.

Well, I'll give what you suggest a try when I get home and see how that works. I'm keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed!

Thanks!

I tried doing what you suggested and it didn't seem to work. I tried reopening Safari and I go no where. No page loads or anything.

This whole issue started when I tried to download the latest version of Firefox. I wish there was a way to restore my computer to the time before that...

Huh. Under Safari>Preferences, what's the default browser set to?

Safari. However, I just got a message saying that it couldn't load the page because the server where the page is located isn't responding.

After trying the suggestions from the help page (resetting the browser and emptying the cache), it still seems to have a hang up of some sort... I can't understand why exactly.

Tis a headscratcher...
