snapdragon76: this is made of win and awesome (Chihiro)
OK, I want to type this up before I forget and totally wuss out...

I really dislike it when people I don't even know judge me by my reading habits. I had mentioned on Twitter about how I wanted to read Hoshi wa Utau on OneManga before the site got shut down. Someone then comes along and "suggests" I ask one of the English publishers to license it so I wouldn't have to be a "thief." I replied back that I make every effort to support the English releases of the series that I like regardless of where I read them first. They didn't have to get all judgmental and self righteous about it, especially since they know nothing of my reading choices.

Furthermore, I would LOVE one of the English companies to license the series. It would be that much easier to find. Plus, since my friend [livejournal.com profile] umadoshi is in the English manga adaptation biz, I want more work to come her way in the near future for as long as possible.

There are a number of series I discovered through this site that I ultimately ended up purchasing the English version wherever I could find it. Even if I read the latest chapters, I still buy the volumes they are later complied in in case I want to reread them... which I often do.

True, the system can and has been abused, but to call me a thief with no justification kinda irks me to no end. I really don't appreciate it.

I totally agree with you. I amso sick of people being so judgmental about this issue when they don't know the whole story, and they don't know everyone's reading/buying habits. Being judged or called a thief pisses me off much more than the demise of the site itself, which I think is a shame, and which I think will ultimately hurt manga sales more than help them.

Sorry to rant on your journal. I may mention this on my own, but I'm trying to avoid drama. >:{

I also think it's a shame. I mean, I know I was introduced to new manga from there and stuff. Plus, what about the series that got canceled and now no one will be able to finish what they started.

These are two of my concerns as well. *sigh* Oh, well, what can you do?

I had to look for alternate sites and I believe I found one, so that is good. :DD

Could you let me know what it is? If you don't feel comfortable putting it here, could you email me at glr111453@yahoo.com? Please? I would be very grateful. :}

Sure, it's Manga Stream (http://mangastream.com/). It doesn't have a large archive from what I can see, but it has the ones I read on a regular basis so it serves its purpose for me.

Ah the internet. Where no one ever writes anything without thinking or after researching the issue.
