Yesterday evening, mom and I decided to go and see Ghostbusters at the movie theater. Now, I'd seen the movie before on VHS, DVD and on television numerous times (since it's a favorite of mine). But this time I wanted to see it on the big screen. And seeing it on the big screen tends to make you notice things you might not on a smaller one.
For instance, you can definitely tell that the clarity isn't quite as clear as on more recent movies. You can see just a little bit of graininess on the film itself. It didn't take away from the enjoyment, but since so many films are filmed digitally nowadays, the 'film' look on movies recently is virtually non existent. I never noticed before really since I'd gotten accustomed to the clarity over the years.
You also tend to notice things in the background that you might not have known before. Like the actions of some of the extras, or maybe just the set decoration itself. Since I didn't need to pay super close attention, I was focusing on more things. Like toward the end, before the guys go to face Gozer atop the apartment building, there is a random extra being very enthusiastic. He's a young guy with reddish hair and a gray suit. Why I fixated on him, I have no idea. I think I thought his antics were amusing. My Google-fu seems to have failed me otherwise I'd have a screen shot of him.
I am very glad I went, though. I had a blast and made for an all around exciting Halloween evening. I do hope they continue with plans for the third. As long as the original creative team is involved somehow that is.
