Just came back from seeing Deathly Hallows and thought I would type up my impressions as I think of them, so they may be a little disjointed.
I thought the opening where the trio were at their respective homes, preparing for the task that awaits them. The scene where Hermione wipes her parents memories was heartbreaking.
I do wish they had kept the part where Dudley thanked Harry for saving his life a couple of years earlier. I thought it was a good scene to show how much Dudley had grown a bit.
Loved the Polyjuice scene, especially where all the Harrys strip down and Fluer comments on how "'ideous" she is. DanRad sure had a number of shirtless scenes in this film, that's for sure. I'm just glad he's over 18 at this point so I don't have to feel quite as dirty. I also didn't realize he was quite as short as he was.
Even though I knew Hedwig's death was coming, it still took me by surprise. Harry's anguish afterward was poignant.
And I agree with
cleolinda, Bill Nighy was a perfect Scrimgour.
FINALLY we get a major kissing scene between Harry and Ginny! I almost shouted, "Why did we get this in the previous movie?!?!" Also, the part where she asks him to fasten her dress was, IMHO kinda sensual. I mean, she showed her bare back and generally that part of the female anatomy is--as I said before--pretty sensual. Makes me think of what their married life would be like in a way.
As always, LOVED the twins. Makes what comes next all the more heartbreaking...
I'd love to have a handbag like Hermione's. Very handy.
I do wish they had also kept the part about the picture and letter from Lily in the scenes at Grimmauld Place. I know it's not essential to the movie as a whole. I just thought it was a nice touch and it does get touched upon further on in the story.
I thought the infiltration of the Ministry was very well done. The way to enter through the lavatory was hilarious. i am glad they do have moments of humor throughout the film. It helped to break up the more intense and emotional moments, which is a nice sort of breather to have.
The scenery during the camping scenes was breathtaking! The mountains, the forests, the cliffside. All of it. The cinematography was incredible.
The epic camping scenes didn't seem quite so epic in the film, which was nice. There were different things going on that it didn't seem dragged down. More scenes with the Snatchers almost discovering Hermione were a nice touch, even if we didn't get any scenes with the refugees like in the book.
The fight scene between Harry and Ron were very well done I thought. The acting by the main three was superb and you could really feel the tension between them, which was the entire point.
I loved the little dance scene between Harry and Hermione in order to try and lighten the mood. I know there will be many of the Harry/Hermione shippers that will squee at that part.
The part in the cemetery in Godric's Hollow was touching. In particular where they're standing at the grave of Harry's parents.
Had a big laugh when Ron returned and was set upon by an angry Hermione.
Scenes in Malfoy Manor was well done. You could see the conflict between Draco and the rest of his family as to identifying Harry. I think he definitely realized he's in over his head.
Alas poor Dobby.
That's it for now. I wish we didn't have to wait quite so long for the next one. I have a feeling it's more of a marketing ploy than anything else since the movie is more than likely already finished. I hope they don't release it in 3D like they say they're going to. I think the 3D is played out.
