snapdragon76: this is made of win and awesome (Default)
You never know how much you appreciate something until you don't have access to it anymore. I speak of... indoor plumbing. Our plumbing decided to go wacky this week-end. I think it did so to amuse itself. It certainly didn't amuse us. Here's the lowdown: Saturday, I take my shower as per usual. During it, I notice that the tub starts to fill up. I think, "OK, the drain to the tub must be clogged. I'll have to get some Drano or something when I finish." I peel open the shower curtain after finishing up, and I notice there is water on the floor. I'm like, "Huh?" I try to dry myself as quickly as I can so I can get to the bottom of the flooding problem. Now (a little sidenote, here), I usually blow dry my hair on Saturdays so it can look fairly decent for church on Sunday. Needless to say, I didn't get a chance to do so. I pull all the stuff out of my bathroom and grab the rug shampooer we borrowed (and still need to return) in order to suck up the water. Needless to say, the carpet in front of the bathroom was drenched. It turns out, the water was coming from underneath the toilet. So, mom came home from the the garage sale she was at with my aunt. We turn off the water, do some more soaking up, and we determine the problem might be the wax seal under the toilet. So mom goes out and buys a new one, we lift up the toilet off the floor (I'm not even going to describe what I found underneath. It's something out of a horror film). We replace the seal, put the tank back on and turn on the water again. Voila! no leak. However, we still had some flushing problems (and backing up into the tub problem) on both toilets. So she put some drain cleaner down the drains to clean them out. Saturday night I went to spend the night at my grandmother's due to the fact that I had to make frequent trips to the bathroom (see a few posts down as to why). Most of yesterday, they still didn't work right, so mom had to consider whether or not she wanted to call our ass of a landlord and have him harp about how he wants to sell the house and how were still a few months behind on rent (which we're still trying to find a way to make-up). So we were praying over our toilets yesterday. Laugh all you want, but it seems to have worked since they appear to be working fine now. However, we're still going to be cautious and not get flush happy. We're not about to look a gift horse in the mouth (or should I say, gift toilet in the bowl).

You know, I wanted something to do this week-end, but this wasn't what I had in mind...
