Well, I'm back! I got back Monday night around 7PM. I'm posting now because we didn't get our cable (including the cable modem) back until this afternoon. *grumble* I have a lot of catching up to do (and I do mean a lot).
We left Thursday and we thought we were going to Jacksonville, but we headed North. We didn't know where we were going. We drove ALL NIGHT! It was exhausing! Finally, we stopped to eat breakfast in Walterboro, SC at a Cracker Barrel. There was a Day's Inn right next to it, so my uncle wen tover to see if they had rooms. They did. So we said, "Screw it, we're staying here!" Mom and me had taken the cats with us (of course) and so we had to stay in a smoking room with my grandmother. We stayed for a couple of days. We felt like war refugees after a while. We were suffering from severe cabin fever by the time we left on Monday morning. Mom and me were able to go to the movies to alleviate some of the boredom. We saw "Princess Diaries 2." It was pretty good. We also weren't the only Floridians there (in the theater)!
Traffic on the way up and back was MURDER!! We traveled I-95 the entire way. We were lucky in that we had power by the time we got home. However, it had only been on for a few hours. We had to toss a bunch of stuff in the refrigerator. >_< As to damage, we made out OK. We has some water come in the living room about 3 1/2 to 4 feet. A shed we had out back got totalled (but everything inside stayed intact), part of a fence was down and we lost a shutter on the front window. Also a few limbs came loose. I'd say we made out great! A lady a few houses down from us on our street lost her back addition she had.
All I have to say is after these past few days, I never want to go through that ever again. And with Ivan coming this way as well! He just better stay the hell away!!
