snapdragon76: this is made of win and awesome (Ryo/Hats -- in your heart (sxylilwitch))
Well, I'm kinda pissed. Since I only caught half of 'Veronica Mars' on Tuesday, I was all set to tape it so I could watch it later, since I usually watch 'Lost' on Wednesdays with mom. Well, due to STUPID FRELLING BASKETBALL, it wasn't on!!! *growls* Now I can only hope to catch it on the rebroadcast my UPN affiliate does on Saturday nights. And, of course, I mised the really cute LoVe snark that was during the first half :3 Maybe I can download the episode sometime... if I can get my BitTorrent to work right and find a .torrent that isn't corrupted somewhere. And, naturally, 'Lost' wasn't even on...

And both [livejournal.com profile] umadoshi and [livejournal.com profile] pinnacles are going to search through their Tori Amos collections and upload some songs for me adn make me an official member of the club. *grins*

So, anyway, I kinda want to do a short summary of 'Kaze Hikaru.' But of course, knowing me, it probably wont be all that short. T_T

Sei is trying to sneak up on Okita in the middle of the night so she can get a hit off of him. She thinks she can if he's asleep. The joke's on her, though. He hits her with his pillow before she can get a chance. In doing so, Saito (who rooms with Okita) wakes up. Sei apologizes to him. Okita then askes why Sei feels she has to enter in such a matter. He then comments that he's been living with fear of the fact she's been trying to get the drop on him. Sei simply states that she wants to try to be as great a swordsman as Okita is. While she says this, she again trys to attack him, but is thwarted once again by a well placed foot. Saito (who is now fully awake) mentions that Sei seems more enthusiastic since returning from Osaka.

Sei is think to herself that she now has a reason to stay. She has someone she wants to protect. Okita (:3 which I think is totally adorable). During a training exercise, she manages to get a hit. Hijikata is actually impressed... until Okita points out she scored against Harada, who's strength is the spear, not swords. Okita goes to talk to Sei and tells her that she shouldn't be too proud of her accomplishment due to the fact that Harada scored against her five times before. Sei apologizes. He then tells her to follow him somewhere more private. Once they do, he tells her he wants her to leave. She asks why. He tells her that the Mibu-Roshi is no place for a girl. Now that her revenge has been accomplished, there is no real reason for her to stay. Unknown to him, though that the real reason she's staying is for him. What she tells him however, is that she simply wants to serve her country, the fact she's a girl is inconsequential. Okita is unmoved. He tells her he will speak to the captains on the matter. Sei stops him, however. She says if she can score a point off of him, he'll have to accept her as a man and if not, she'll freely leave. He gives her a deadline of three days by midnight.

We see Sei trying, unsucessfully, to get a hit off of Okita. Needless to say, he dodges her everytime. This just makes her more determined than ever. After two days, she satrts to worry some. She overhears Okita talking with fellow Vice-Captain Yamanami. He asks why Okita is looking happy. Okita responds by saying his wish will finally come true tonight. Sei knows he's referring to her leaving. This both worries and frightens Sei. Hurt, she tries attacking again, only to get defeated. She loses her balance and falls over. Okita, concerned, goes to help her. She yells at him, telling him she doesn't want his kindness. He tells he's worried she may hav injured herself due to the blood on her leg. She's baffled since she says she'd not injured. Suddenly, realization dawns on her... and Okita as well (the look on his face is priceless). She turns red (though not as red as Okita) and says her "horse" has arrived. Okita is...confused to say the least. Sei, utterly embarassed, says that her father told her that when she turned 14, her "horse" would arrive. Okita, horrified, questions why it was her 'father' who mentioned it. Sei tells him that her mother had already passed on and besides, her father was a doctor. He would know this sort of thing. Okita then asks what her father would've suggested. She says that he said not to panic, that it wasn't a disease. Then she mentions that she was to have told her father right away. Here is where Okita completely wigs out. It's really kind of cute, actually. He starts to run to Hijikata, but Sei stops him. Okita panics and says that there has to be someone who knows what to do. Sei explains they live in a compound with a bunch of men. They need a woman. Suddenly, Sei thinks of someone who may be abble to help. Okita finishes her thought and mentions Akesato. He goes and takes Sei into the town toward Shimabara. Sei is utterly horrified. Not only does she officially become a woman in the midst of men, but it happened in front of Okita, of all people.

Forunately, Akesato-san happens to be available and more than willing to lend a hand. She shuffles Sei into the room, leaving a still enbarassed Okita outside. Akesato gives Sei a change of clothing and tells her she'll taech her how to make a "horse." This being the era before... the items we have now, you had to make your own using paper. Sei asks Akesato how well the "horse" is supposed to hold up. Akesato said not entirely well, which is why girls and women stay inside and calm for seven days. Sei is boggled. She says she can't simply do nothing for seven days. It will raise suspicion amongst the others. Akesato then pleads with Sei to quit the Mibu-Roshi. She asks that even though she's a girl, that she wants so go through so much hardship just to stay close to Okita. Sei quickly says yes. Akesato then says that if that were the case, maybe she should quit and become his bride. After getting over the shock of such a suggestion, Sei tells Akesato that then, she wouldn't be able to protect Okita. She says, that even though she may be riduculed for not being ladylike, her happiness is being able to protect Okita (awwwww). She then laments that she simply can't take off seven days every month due to her "horse." Akesato, touched by Sei's plight, then offers an alternative suggestion. That she may be able to take off only three days, with a little creativity on their part. Sei readily agrees. The time is then rung indicating ten o'clock. Sei is suddenly aware of the bargain she made with Okita, and that her time is almost up. She procedes to explain the siutation to Akesato.

Meanwhile, Okita is waiting for Sei and is also very much aware of the time (which is now about 11:30). Someone then calls for him and tells him Akesato wishes to see him. He goes and inquires about Sei. Akesato tells him that Sei has "finally come to terms." Okita looks and sees Sei... dressed as a girl! He's taken by surprise, mostly because he's never seen her dressed as a girl before. She bows to him and thanks him for all the trouble he's gone through for her sake. She tells him she's realized what a burden she has befcome and says that there was no way for her to perfect her swordsmanship, no matter how hard she may train. And then she apologizes. Okita then tells her she was mistaken. He was worried because she was improving so well. He also knew that eventually he'd have to face her during her training. He then says that even so, she is still a girl and therefore she'd have to eventually leave. He wanted her to leave earlier because he had no wish to see her hurt, which the longer she stayed, would be an eventual possibility. Sei is pleased to hear this and playfully taps him on the head with a nearby pipe. Akesato then declairs that Sei got a hit off of Okita, therefore keeping her part of the bargain. Okita is completely shocked. Sei then tells him that as a samurai, he couldn't go back on his word and therefore, she had to stay. Okita then complains that he was tricked, which neither Sei nor Akesato deny.

Later, when he goes back to the compound, Okita, still upset at being tricked, tells the others that "Kamiya" has stayed behind in Shimabara for a few days, which was a common pratice at the time.

My thoughts: This chapter was incredibly cute. The parts where Okita completely flips out when Sei starts her period were priceless. I mean, here we have a guy, barely out of his teens, who's spent a great deal of time around other guys at the dojo and whatnot. Although he mentions two older sisters, stuff like this wasn't exactly discussed. And there was cuteness involved since we see more of Sei's feelings toward Okita come to the surface. A really cute scene where we visualize Okita and Sei married was super cute. I may have to scan that sometime... *giggles*

Well, hopefully I can find some way of getting my BitTorrent client to work. Wish me luck!

Trivia of the day: "The bends" is a painful condition caused when nitrogen gas forms bubbles in a diver's blood. Scuba divers risk getting the bends if they come up too fast from a deep dive.

This issue caused me to become more attached to the series. I liked learning about how girls handled "that time" in the 1800s, at least in Japan :)

I know. I became more attatched several issues ago when we first find out that Sei's in love with Okita. I just thought, "How utterly adroable!! Must go back and reread now."

Yes, I'm glad I live in the 21st Century...

I thought this latest "Kaze" chapter was adorable. I love flipped out Okita, and he was SO embarrassed it was adorable. ^^ I love the picture of Sei and Okita married, too. Makes you wonder if it's forshadowing. *evil laugh*

Wasn't it justthe cutest?! And Okita did look cute all freaked out and everything (but then, he's a cutie anyway). And you could totally tell that Sei was just as embarassed, mostly because it happened in front of the guy she's in love with. I know if it happeendto me, I'd want a hole to open up in the ground underneath me...

Wasn't it cute? I think I'm definitely going to scan it sometime...

And it's be awesome foreshadowing...

God, no kidding. And poor Okita, I thought it was hystarical when he started yelling for Hijikata and Sei was like, "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Yay! Scanning!

I'm enjoying Crimson Hero. I really like Yushin. *cackle*

Tell me about it. I mean, she's probably thinking, "Hey, it's bad enough you know about it, but I don't need him to now, besides it'd totally blow my cover." But Okita was panicking at the point and wasn't thinking clearly.

Yeah, I like Crimson Hero too. And I like Yushin, but I like the other guy too.
