You just like to torment me, don't you?

Last night, a small group of us (4) went to deliver the cards we had made for the Nursing Home. I always feel a bit awkward in places like that for some reason. I mean, I guess it's because it's something I don't encounter everyday. But I wasn't the only one who felt slightly uncomfortable, so oddly, that made me feel more relaxed. Basically we went from room to room, handing out the personalized cards to the different residents. The way we got their names ahead of time was that the Administrator of the facility goes to our church, and thought it'd be a nice gesture to do. Most of the people were asleep or not coherant, so we left their cards for them on a table or a nightstand so they wouldn't be disturebed. Quite a few of them were very touched by what we did and it was a good feeling. I bet some don't get very many visitors. This one lady used to be a wing walker back in the 40's. I bet she'd have told us all sorts of things if we were able to stay there all night. Another one wanted one of the ladies we were with to stop by sometime to have dinner. She was very sweet.

Well, I read volume 14 of Furuba the other day. I'll not get into how exactly... It was nice to find out more about Rin. Even though I knew basically her story from hearing it from others, it still helps to actually read it for yourself. It was really sweet to read about how her love for Haru blossomed, even though she felt she wasn't worth loving (due to her parents drilling it into her. *grumbles*). And it was really cute to see her open up a little to Tohru. I mean, she still comes off as a bit prickly, but given her past history, it's understandable. It was sad to read about how she had a hard time staying with Kagura since her family was caring toward her. It probably hurt her a great deal to see that when she desperately wanted the same. Maybe more people will be sympathetic toward her character after they get to read more about her.

And I'm in the middle of reading the first chapter of ES. It looks to be really interesting, yet different. I don't think it can really be classified as shojo. More of a sci-fi/mystery sort of genre. And, of course, the art is absolutely beautiful. Soryo-sensei has a wonderful style.

Tonight we have a Christmas Candlelight Service and we made up the memorial luminaries to be set out front. I plan on taking pictures. We're going to do our own private one on Saturday night.

Quote of the day: "What can I give Him Poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would give Him a lamb, If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part, - But what can I give Him, I give Him my heart." -- Christina Rossetti

*boogies* so how far behind in the released chapters are they?

[identity profile] snapdragon76.livejournal.com 2005-12-26 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's see. Ch. 120 was just released and I think Stoptazmo has up to 102. I think they go buy the volumes released in Japan as opposed to the chapters in Hana to Yume. Vol. 18 was released not that long ago, so they may be putting up more from that at some point.

Of course, all of this is just an assumption.

That's nice that you gave those cards out. :)

Yes, it was. And I know the residents appreciated it as well.

That was nice of you to go to the nursing home....

My father was in rehab and some older people also had some interesting stories there.

Yes, it was. Most of them were in there for rehab but there are some who are in there for long-term care.
